Imagine KC is public input project about the future of Greater Kansas City. We want to know what you think about a specific vision for the region’s future.
For years the region has developed plans, discussed issues and set priorities. The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) has taken this information and distilled it into a set of 13 strategies. These strategies are intended to make the Kansas City region more sustainable; a community where the vitality and well-being of our people, economy and environment are equally valued and equally pursued. The questions are: Which strategies are our priorities and how do we make them happen?
Through Imagine KC, One KC Voice and its partners are asking the community to respond to those questions. The project will culminate with a live, televised public forum on KCPT at 7 p.m., Earth Day, April 22.
There are many ways you’ll be able to participate. The “13 strategies/13 days” blog series will start right here April 1. Writers with backgrounds in water quality, public transit, renewable energy and other areas will take center stage, and each of them will cover one of the 13 strategies for a more sustainable region; one entry will be posted per day between April 1 and April 13.
You can also hold a conversation with others in your community about the strategies for a more sustainable region. Download the Conversation-in-a-Box kit from the One KC Voice Web site. If you talk with friends by e-mail, phone or online; go to community meetings; attend church services; volunteer or spend time out and about in other ways, most of your work is already done. All we’re asking is that you get a group of people together and use the ready-to-go agenda in the Conversation kit to have a discussion about our region’s future. You can even submit your feedback via an online form. It’s the most personal, simplest way to help shape the future of your community. If you submit your feedback before April 22, your responses may be used on air during Imagine KC’s live, televised forum.
The evening of April 22, there will be several concurrent discussions linked via satellite to the live public forum on KCPT. More information will be available on these events later … but you’ll be invited to attend.
There are also online Imagine KC livechats available on the One KC Voice Web site. You can use these at any time, but they will be closely monitored after the April 22 television event. Stop by at 8:30 p.m. that day to see what people are talking about.
The Imagine KC project gives us a unique opportunity to come together to decide what our priorities are for our region — and to move forward to achieve them. Your voice is needed to help build the best possible region for us and our children.
So come back and read us again starting April 1, submit your comments, and start a conversation. Visit our site and download the Conversation kit. We hope your ideas will help guide the conversation about Greater Kansas City’s future: before April 22 and far beyond.
